Just in case you’re interested, here’s a round up of some of my favorites around the globe, in no particular order:
Cow Books, Daikanyama, Tokyo
Go for: Jack Kerouac in Japanese, an insight into Japan’s shady political history, or a decent cafe creme.
Spoonbill and Sugartown Booksellers, Williamsburg, New York
Go for: First editions, books on art, design, and the surreal, and hard to find ‘zines and indie mags
The Silver Snail, Queen West, Toronto
Go for: Hard to find comics in an orderly fashion. Bonus: you won’t be judged (or hit on, if you’re a woman)
Ras Bookshop & Gallery, Raval, Barcelona
Go for: Books on type, Street Art, and international magazines. Bonus there’s a cool gallery in the back, and it’s Across the street from Carmelita, a laid-back eatery for lunch or dinner. Perfect for perusing your recent purchases.
Librissime, Vieux Port, Montreal
Go for: Gorgeous editions by luxe publisher Assouline. They also offer services to build your ultimate library, if you’re lucky enough to have a swollen bank account.
Happy reading.
